I was pulled over by the Police twice during my last visit to NewYork, Brooklyn to be precise.
I was with my cousin when it first happened; I was asked “May we know you” and I said I am a Police Officer in Nigeria. Then I showed them my ID card. And they let us be. The 2nd time, I was with a friend who knows me on the SM street. Saw me when I got out of the subway. He came up to me and said “Hi, you are Aleey Giwa the Police Officer right?” I smiled and said yeah I am. He thought to drop me at my place.
On our way, we were pulled over by the Police. This time around, the Policemen asked for his driver’s license and he wasn’t with it. They asked me if I could drive and what I do for a living. I told them I am a Police Officer too, in Nigeria. Guess what!
They warned my friend and let us be! They said “we are letting you be because of the Police Officer sitting right beside you.”
I never came on SM street to tell you all that, I was stopped by the policemen or I was profiled a criminal in the USA. I don’t have a tattoo non do a have braids on, yet I got pulled over. Never came on SM street to tell you all that, I was stopped by the policemen or I was profiled a criminal in the USA. Because I feel a crime/criminals doesn’t come with looks! The Policemen (NYPD) were just doing their job. I believe the Narrative of the Police men on this side is quite disturbing! Because of the bad eggs we have. But it’s all good! Positive changes are guaranteed now and in the nearest future in sha Allah!
