The Honourable commissioner for Homeland Security in Abia state, Prince Dan Okoli has assured the good people of Ohuhu in umuahia North Local Government of the ministry’s readiness to conduct a free and fair selection in the ongoing recruitment exercise in the ministry.
The Homeland security boss who stated this during a courtesy visit by the Ohuhu Welfare Union, assured the people of Ohuhu that the ministry will look into the issues of sharing formula which they presented to him.
The commissioner also promised that the present recruitment in the ministry can’t be influenced by politicians, citing that you don’t play politics with the security and life of the people, he described the employment as another way of reorganizing the state’s vigilante group. He further stated that the Homeland security consist of neighbourhood watch, community policing and forest guard. The commissioner also stated that the ministry will also get involved in community election, town union elections in order to ensure safety throughout the exercise and also promised to regulate the activities of SARs in Abia, the commissioner pleaded with the union and Abians in General to contribute their own quota in securing the state through the state government security trust fund by donating cars and order security equipment.
In his earlier speech the President General Ohuhu welfare union, Chief Obi Aguocha congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment as the pioneer commissioner in charge of Homeland Security and assured him of the readiness of Ohuhu people to partner with the ministry to eradicate kidnapping, drug trafficking and human trafficking in the state and umuahia in General.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the limited forms allocated to the people of umuahia north and pleaded with the Homeland boss to look into it. He also reminded the commissioner that umuahia north is made up of two brothers Ohuhu & Ibeku, stating that they share things equal, urging the commissioner to share the slot of umuahia north in a way that no clan will be cheated.
In his closing remarks, a son of Ohuhu and the permanent secretary, Bureau of Establishment & Pensions, Chief Okey Ihedioha thanked the commissioner for his hospitality and his ability to assemble a wonderful team to pilot the affairs of the ministry. Chief Okey assured him of their readiness to partner with the ministry in eradicating crime in the state, anytime he calls on them.
The union also used the occasion to congratulate the Governor on his victory at the supreme Court and prayed God to guide and protect him as he pilot the affairs of Abia for the next four years.
The Homeland security office will be established in the 17 local government areas in the state, to work in partnership with other community vigilantes to protect lives and properties of Abians.
Those that were present during the visit includes; Deacon Sam Odoemelam (Permanent secretary Homeland security), COS TO THE Governor on intelligence Austine Ogbonna, Senior special assistant to the Governor on intelligence and other top management of the ministry.
