The Department of State Secret Service has debunked arresting the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
In a similar way, the EFCC stated that its Chairman honoured an invitation by the Presidential Panel to review the activities of the EFCC.
This was made known by the Head, Media & Publicity of EFCC, Dele Oyewale, on Monday stating that the invitation came when Magu was on his way to the force headquarters in Abuja.
Read the statement below;
“MAGU HONOURS PANEL INVITATION
Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu on Monday, July 6, 2020, honoured an invitation by a Presidential Panel reviewing the activities of the EFCC, at the Banquet Hall wing of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He was served the invitation to the Panel, while on his way to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for a meeting.
The EFCC’s boss was neither arrested nor forced to honour the invitation. A member of a legal team from the EFCC is also with him on the Panel.

Recall that Ibrahim Magu was accused of corruption by Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami who wrote a memo to President Buhari given reasons to sack Magu, as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Malami accused Magu of a myriad of contraventions, especially “diversion of recovered loot, insubordination and misconduct”.
While alleging that Magu sold most of the assets recovered by the EFCC without the knowledge of anyone, Malami asserted that the EFCC boss “is reckless and a liability to the anti-corruption war.
There are discrepancies of figures concerning the recovered assets,” adding that Magu was not transparent enough in the management of the recovered assets.
