The Chairman, Imo State committee on Coronavirus, Prof Maurice Iwu has said the virus is curable, but cautioned unnecessarily exposure to the virus.
Prof Iwu stated this when the Speaker and some members of Imo State House of Assembly paid him a thank- you visit.
He disclosed that all members of the assembly that tested positive to the virus had been converted to negative.
Iwu said; “Even those who were symptomatic were also made better. The message to all is to continue to be preventive, the virus is real, we can prevent people from dying from it, but what we don’t know is the long -term effect of contracting it”.
He dissociated the committee from any person or group of persons collecting money, selling COVID- 19 materials or using force on the people, as according to him, the committee does not engage in any of the above.
Earlier,the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins, expressed satisfaction on the effort of the committee which he said has been yielding positive results.
Chiji said; “The COVID-19 team of Imo state is great, they have been wonderful, through their effort, people who tested positive few weeks ago are now negative. They were not treated by foreigners, but by our people here which shows that Africa can help itself in some certain things”.
The Speaker disclosed that the House has set up a COVID-19 team which will continue to advise it on the best ways to handle issues of the virus.
He said members of the House will also involve in sensitization campaigns in their various constituencies, to educate their constituents on the existence and dangers of the virus.
