Less than a month after burying his mother, the former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings has been confirmed dead.
Rawlings who is one of the most respected African leader and politician was a military leader and became the country’s President from 1981 to 2001.
Rawlings died of COVID-19.
The African Union envoy to Somalia, who died at the age of 73 was known for leading an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on 15 May 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place and also launched a massive anti-corruption campaign that purged the nation of corruption.
Also confirming the incident, Dele Momodu wrote, “The saddest news of this year. My God. Former President Jerry John Rawlings of Ghana has passed on. I’m completely devastated. Good night, an African hero.”
