The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robber, Chiemezie Kenneth Aligu, for snatching a Honda CUB50 at Okpuno Otolo in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State.
The 24-year-old man was arrested following a distress call by 9: am on the 7th of December, 2020, by Police operatives attached to Nnewi Area Command and Otolo Division in conjunction with Egbumuenem vigilante group Otolo.
The intervention of the police operatives saved Chimezie, who is from Ebonyi State but resides in Abubor Nnewichi in Nnewi North LGA, from an angry mob who almost lynched him.
Items recovered from him include one English barrel pistol with breech number 941396, a motorcycle and two phones.
In another development, a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, stated that the Police Patrol Team attached to Aguata Division received a distress call on the 7th of December, 2020, from a fuel station.
After refilling their ash-coloured Highlander Jeep, the men refused to pay but threatened to shoot the fuel attendant.
On sighting the Police patrol team which responded promptly, ‘the suspects fired a gun and escaped, but were forced to abandon the jeep which was reasonably suspected to have been snatched at gunpoint after a hot pursuit.
The vehicle was recovered and upon searched, a plate number with REG NO. KTU-314-EV was found inside the vehicle.’
Investigations are ongoing and effort made to apprehend fleeing suspects to bring them to justice.
