The Anambra State Police Command has foiled assassination attempt on a middle-aged man identified as Chukwunenye Nwachukwu Nwadiobu popularly known as (Akirika) of Amudo village.
The victim was rescued by police operatives attached to B’ Division Awka in conjunction with vigilante group following a distress call by 8:30 pm on the 12th of December, 2020.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, the victim was attacked by the suspects who are still at large, who made his Toyota Sienna car with REG NO.AWK-334-SZ stop and dragged him out of it, put him into their tricycle and made for the Ifite bush.
The assailants, on sighting police operatives, abandoned the badly beaten victim, whom they tied up with a rope and was about to be murdered on a laid wooden stake, at Agbani Ifite Awka and ran away.
Items recovered include a blue and white coloured tricycle with REG NO.AWK-161-VG, ID card bearing one ODINAKA AYAEGBUSI also identified by the victim as one of his assailants and other incriminating items.
The investigation has begun and effort is being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects to bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, John B. Abang thanked the citizens for the prompt call and reassures the public of adequate protection while urging residents to report the aforementioned suspect or any suspicious persons to the nearest Police Station or call police emergency number 07039194332 for a prompt response.
