The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, have kicked against the extension of the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, stating that it was unIslamic and corrupt practice while giving the President, Muhammadu Buhari, 14 days to reverse extension.
This was contained in a statement made available to Newsleverage on Tuesday by the Chairman of the NSCIA, South-South Zone, Dr Sheikh. Abdulmalik Bassey, who revealed that the zone feels the pain of marginalization under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dr Sheikh, who doubles as the Indigenous Chief Imam of Akwa Ibom State Chapter disclosed that under the amended Police Act 2020, it fully spelt out the tenure of the IGP while stating that the Assistant Inspector General of Police Moses Jitoboh is the most qualified for the post of the IGP.
The statement also revealed that the group will use every available Islamic jurisprudence to fight the nepotism displayed by the President while giving the President 14 days to reverse the extension or face the wrath of a subsequent protest.
The statement reads below;
We the members of the Nigerian Supreme Council For Islamic Affairs (N.S.C.I.A.) South-South Zone makes bold to say that our son AIG Moses Jibotoh is the most qualified if merit is the word for people who are capable to be put in possession of authority. The Police act as amended and signed into Law by Mr President just in November 2020 is clear about the expiration of the tenure of IGP and succession.
For Adamu Mohammed to have been given three months extension of office is an un-Islamic and corrupt practice, we, therefore, condemn it in its totality as an abuse of power and impunity by the PMB led APC government.
We feel the pains of marginalization and huge deceit and lies in our nepotistic tribalistic religious bigotry leaders of My President’s failed administration. His style of leadership has dictatorial tendencies and is un-Islamic, corrupt and directionless. After signing the Police Act 2020 into law, the President went further to breach the very law he signed a few months ago.
We will use every available Islamic jurisprudence to fight for our right. Our religion Islam must not be used as a tool to oppress or further divide our people because it is giving a bad name to us as Muslims.
Mr Adamu Mohammed has served out his tenure, he doesn’t have any right to the office.
We are giving the Government and Presidency 14 days to reverse it and RETIRE him or else we will mobilise our people to protest furthermore and get a court order to get him out of office.
May Allah Sweet Bless you all and give you good health, happiness, prosperity Allahumma Amin.
