Saturday 16th October 2021 will go down in history as the day a man of history and destiny was honoured for his efforts in rewriting the history of the legislature in Abia state and Nigeria in general.
Before the coming of Abia’s 7th Assembly, not just the Abia legislature but indeed the legislative arm of government across the nation have often been dismissed as an appendage of the executive whose only duty is to approve without due diligence and legislative scrutiny whatever the executive arm drops in their chambers.
But the coming of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, changed the narrative, the speaker of Abias 7th Assembly has through legislative intelligence and smart governance strategy kept the legislative arm in check while not entering into unnecessary and avoidable conflict that will drag governance to a standstill with the executive arm.
Putting aside Political differences and unprovoked hatred induced by political envy or fear of his political towering frame, every Abian, can attest to the fact that Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has put in excellent performance as a speaker and has led a vibrant legislative assembly whose allegiance is to the masses and not the executive, and can be described as the best speaker in Nigeria, judging from his performances.
Truth is, any public officer who has worked hard and selflessly in the interest of the people deserves to be celebrated, and I have taken time to sample opinion of ordinary unbiased Abians over the The Sun Newspapers Public Service man of the year 2020, award given to Rt. Hon Chinedum Orji by the Sun News Papers, almost all the views sampled agreed that the award was well deserved.
They all agreed that the speaker has a track record of excellent works and deserves to be motivated.
While his colleagues describe him as the most assessable and humble speaker Abia Assembly ever had, staff of Abia state house of Assembly describe him as the speaker who placed the highest premium on their welfare, carries on his legislative duties without arrogance and does not boss people around.
His domestic staff and aides describe him as a speaker who does not issue out orders after orders to his staff and subordinates but rather, a team player who carries every one along, very punctual to duty and enjoys assisting in carrying out even the least of chores in the chambers, always willing to answer questions no matter how irrelevant, very active and does not discriminate based on party, gender, zonal or cultural divisions.
Rt. Hon Chinedum Orji is simply a speaker without boundaries
His capacity to handle difficult assignments and proactive approach to issues bothering the masses makes him outstanding.
To everybody familiar with Abia politics and political history, this prestigious award coming from Sun Newspapers speaks volumes on the integrity and indefatigable personality of the man whom many prefer to call Ikuku.
Let me remind Mr. Speaker that The award of The Sun Newspapers Public Service Man of the year 2020 is a motivation to perform more while serving as a sense of appreciation and encouragement to him, its for him to know that people are watching his activities so rather than lower his guard he should rather strive to climb towards greater success, let Mr. speaker be aware that it’s a call for an increased responsibility that commands more dedication, love and care to Ndi Abia.
