Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the immediate closure of scrap and waste markets in Abia Central and Abia North senatorial zones in the State.
This follows the closure of some scrap and waste market in Abia South few days ago over illegal collection of scrap in the market.
In a statement made available by the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu on Friday, he revealed that a taskforce has been set to help in the enforcement of the closure of the markets.
“In addition to security agents enforcing the closure, the following task force members are to be inaugurated on Tuesday, 17th May, 2022 at the ministry of trade and investment, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia, by 11am, to support the enforcement of the closure as well as carry out proper documentation of all those involved in the trade:
