The Kaduna Government has directed its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to accept payment through their collection agents in old and new Naira denominations from all residents.
In a letter signed by Muyiwa Adekeye, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Media and Communication on Sunday reiterated that the State will comply with a subsisting court order and so will offer a route for cash payment.
The letter reads in part “In line with the subsisting order of the Supreme Court, the Kaduna State Government has directed its ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that their collection agents continue to accept payments made in all denominations of the naira, old and new.”
On Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari, in a National broadcast insisted that the old Naira notes except for N200 are no longer legal tenders while urging Nigerians to support the policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria to redesign the Naira.
Meanwhile, this contravenes the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the 15th of February on the validity of the N200, N500, and N1000 Naira notes.
The judgment followed a motion ex-parte on behalf of three northern states Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara, who on February 3rd filed a suit seeking to halt the implementation of the CBN’s policy.
The suit was joined by other States like Katsina, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Sokoto states bringing the new total of plaintiffs to ten.
