The Central Bank of Nigeria has confirmed the evacuation of banknotes from its vaults to commercial banks as part of efforts to ease the circulation of banknotes in every denomination.
In a statement by the Acting Director, of the Corporate Communication Department of the CBN, Dr. Isa AbdulMumin on Friday, directed banks to open for operation on Saturdays and Sundays.
According to the release, the CBN directed banks to load their Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, for their respective customers.
“Branches of Commercial banks will operate on Saturdays and Sundays to attend to customers’ cash needs.”
The statement added that CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele will lead teams to monitor the level of compliance by the banks while urging Nigerians to be patient as the current situation will end soon.
Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress had threatened to protest over the incessant cash crunch that had crippled the economy and brought suffering to Nigerians.
