Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has obtained a court injunction barring the State Assembly from impeaching him following an altercation.
In suit No IHC/230/CS/2023 which mentioned the Rivers State Assembly, Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly, Deputy Speaker, Clerk of the House and Chief Judge of the State ordered them to maintain the status quo.
The case was adjourned to the 14th of November 2023 for its hearing and argument.
Recall that the 24 State Assembly Members signed an impeachment notice to Governor Fubara after his fallout with the Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike on Monday.
The feuding parties were subsequently invited to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday and also met with the governors of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike accused Fubara of frolicking with his enemies saying, “You cannot work, and people will begin to bring enemies; those who fought you when you were struggling for the person to be in office. Nobody does that.”
He denied the report that he was seeking financial gain saying that Fubara moved to destabilize the political structure of the State.
“I am not a political ingrate but don’t touch the political structure of the state. I will not shut my eyes.”
In response, Fubara stated that there was nothing wrong with a father and son having issues, “Fubara said there is “nothing wrong if a father and a son have a problem”.
“For our dear state, I know everybody is wondering what’s going on, what’s not going on. We are okay, there is no problem.
“If we have an internal issue, it will be resolved and everything will go back to normal.
“There is nothing wrong if a father and a son have a problem. If there is any problem — but I don’t think there is anything. Whatever it is, we will definitely resolve the issue.”
