Amuvi Welfare and Development Association Empowers Youths, Distributes Tools to Trainees

The Amuvi Welfare and Development Association (AWADA), in collaboration with the Amuvi Development Group (ADG), has provided tools to the youths of Amuvi to start their entrepreneurial business after completing a rigorous vocational training and apprenticeship program.

The event, which was effectively coordinated by the Secretary General of AWADA, Mazi Oji Uja Oji and held at the Amuvi Civic Center on the 21st of September 2024, gave the recipients of the exercise tailoring machines, plumbing tools, farm equipment, laptops, and others

Speaking, Mazi Nnadozie Udensi, the President General of Nzuko Arochukwu who was special guest, challenged the recipients to use the empowerment to improve the standard of living of the people, despite the economic situation in the country.

“Empowerment scheme is not an easy thing currently. Take it as serious as you can think of. Skills can develop one for life. Your attitude determines your level of success as whatever one sows, he reaps. My prayer is that you will all be successful through this scheme provided.”

Contributing, Eze Ogo Amuvi, Mazi Thomas Okoroji  emphasized the importance of skills in reducing negative vices in the community. He urged the recipients to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the empowerment scheme.

He urged them to strive for success, emphasizing that they were not the first to attempt this and encouraging them to pave the way for others. The traditional ruler recalled that the exercise was about the third in the series since ADG was founded, so he thanked the leadership and donors who made the exercise possible.

Chief Mrs. Vera Alakuku Okereke, representing the ADG Chair, Mazi Chima Okoro Okereke, disclosed that the empowerment scheme, which started three years ago, was aimed at improving the lives of the Amuvi youths. She mentioned that individuals were asked to contribute in order to help the youths benefit from the scheme.

She applauded the recipients for making themselves available to be trained and charged them to continue to be a proud ambassador of the scheme.

Furthermore, Dr. Azubike Okoro, Chair Uda Entrepreneurship Scheme, in his remarks explained tge Amuvi Entrepreneurship framework, recalled how it started and the success and challenges encountered, he commended the ITF for its support of the community empowerment scheme. He emphasized the union’s commitment to guiding young people through the program to help them become self-sufficient. Dr. Okoro expressed gratitude to the generous contributions from the sons and daughters of Amuvi and encouraged the recipients to effectively utilize the resources provided to them. Mazi Ik Okafor, PG Emeritus, charged the youths to reciprocate the effort of the community by doing things that will add value to society.

Ably present at the event were Mazi Chima Amara – Chairman Amuvi Welfare and  Development Union, Home branch, Honorable Martins Eleanya, Mazi Uche Uwa, Mazi Egeonu Ezuma, Dr Mrs Nkechi Nwafor, Mazi Dr Azubike Okoro, Chief Mrs Vera Alakuku Okereke and Mazi Zulu Ofoelue, Assist Secretary General, Nzuko.

One of the high points of the ceremony was the talk on how to build a successful community business by Mazi Dave Imoko, MDCE Dorcas Waters Ltd.

He used case studies to illustrate to the trainees the path to success in managing their personal business. Major pitfalls that contribute to failure were identified to enable them to be guided.

Empowerment tools were distributed to the 11 trainees, and some of their parents who graced the occasion thanked God and the Amuvi community for the rare opportunity.
