Abia Govt., NAFDAC to Unseal Abia Shops Locked Up Over Expired Drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is set to unseal sections of the Ariaria International Market, Eziukwu Market, and Tenant Road Drug Market after investigating these areas and finding that they are not involved in the production or sale of adulterated, expired, or counterfeit drugs and consumable products to the public.

This was made in a press release signed by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Chief Press Secretary of Governor Alex Otti, on Tuesday. This decision follows extensive discussions and engagements between the Governor and NAFDAC authorities.

The unsealing exercise will be conducted by the NAFDAC Director for the South-East Zone on February 26, 2025.

Shops found guilty of engaging in illicit activities will remain sealed until those responsible are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Government strongly opposes practices that involve producing or selling harmful substances to citizens under the guise of business. It will continue to work closely with NAFDAC to ensure that the state is free from fake, adulterated, or expired drugs and other consumable products and that those responsible are held accountable under the law.
