Outrage as Fish Magnet CEO is Abducted and Killed by Gunmen

It was gathered that Mr. Onyekere was attacked on the evening of July 27, 2025, at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka, by armed men who trailed him before launching a violent assault.

He was reportedly shot in the leg and abducted by his assailants. His lifeless body was later discovered, sending shockwaves through the community.

The incident has drawn condemnation from Nigerian residents, with many ascribing the killing to business associates and the upcoming Anambra State Governorship election.

Reacting to the killing, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the CP directed all tactical and intelligence units under his command to intensify efforts to apprehend the killers.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the joint security team comprising the Anambra State Police Command and Vigilante Operatives recovered Mr. Onyekere’s navy blue Toyota Corolla, which the attackers used to flee the scene. The vehicle was found abandoned along the Ukwulu/Igbariam road.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the killing was premeditated, with evidence suggesting that the gunmen had trailed the businessman before the attack.

Condemning the act as “cowardly,” CP Orutugu stated, “We owe it to the family, the people of Anambra, and the memory of the deceased to ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law.”

The police have urged anyone with information that could aid the investigation to come forward, promising confidentiality and swift action.
