The 22nd Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army has stated that an in-depth investigation has commenced following the death of its personnel, Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi, who is suspected of killing his wife before taking his own life.
This incident occurred on October 11, 2025, at Wawa Cantonment in Niger State, leaving residents of the barracks in shock over the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, reported that Lance Corporal Femi and his wife were found dead in their apartment located in Block 15, Room 24 of the Corporals and Below Quarters at Wawa Cantonment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the soldier was on duty within the Cantonment and had sought permission from his superior to attend to personal matters with the intention of returning to duty. The discovery of their bodies followed this brief absence.
“The remains of the deceased have been preserved, and an in-depth investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances of this tragic incident.”
The Nigerian Army expresses its deep regret over this event and extends condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. The army is also praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, the Commander of the 22nd Armoured Brigade, assures the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to this sad incident will be conducted, and the results will be communicated to the public.
