Abia Police Rescue 3 Victims, Recover ₦2 Million Ransom, Others

The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued three victims of a recent kidnapping incident and recovered part of the ransom payment along with other exhibits, according to an official statement released on Monday.

The victims identified as 42-year-old Onyedikachi Peter Onyegsi from Akpou, Isuochi, Abia State; 44-year-old Ifeanyi Nnabuife and 26-year-old Amarachi Nwaebubu, both from Anambra State were abducted on April 12, 2025, at Afojide Market, Isuochi.

According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Spokesperson of the Command, they were rescued on July 12 at about 5:30 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Intelligence Response Unit (IRU), in a coordinated operation involving other tactical units.

Recovered during the operation were a red Lexus 350 Jeep, ₦2 million in cash believed to be part of the ransom, three mobile phones, and two leg chain shackles. The police confirmed that several suspects linked to the abduction have been apprehended and are currently being interrogated.

Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, commended the operatives for their swift response and assured the public of the Command’s relentless efforts to rid Abia State of criminal elements.

“We remain committed to ensuring that Abia State is safe, secure, and free from all forms of criminality,” the CP stated.
