Premier Mayors in Abia State Hold High-Level Convergence, Declare Full Support for Governor Alex Otti’s 2027 Re-election Bid
The Association of Premier Mayors (Former Mayors) of Local Government Areas in Abia State, under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, has formally declared its total support for the Governor’s 2027 re-election campaign. The association, led by its interim Chairman and former Abia State ALGON Chairman, Dr Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele, who also served as the Premier Mayor of Isiala Ngwa SoLocal Government Area, and currently serving as a Member of the Governing Council of Abia State University (ABSU), held a crucial strategic meeting on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Ovu-Nwambuisi, Agbaragwu, in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
The high-powered meeting brought together former Local Government Mayors who played vital roles in laying the early governance foundations of the Otti administration and who are now serving in various capacities across the state. The gathering was convened to reaffirm their loyalty and to mobilise a fresh political structure ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Speaking at the end of the closed-door meeting, Chairman of the Association, Dr Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele, emphasised the reason for their renewed coalition.
“We are initiating the organisation of Premier Mayors. Governor Alex Otti, who is the most performing Governor in Abia State, chose specific people at the beginning of his government. He chose this people because of their credibility, the quality of their education, and the level of their achievements in life to lay the foundation of Abia State Local Government,” He stated.
He explained that whiletheir tenure has ended, the responsibility to protect the foundation they helped build remains.
“We still have a stake in Abia State, because this is our state and the Governor is ours. We and the Governor built up the foundation with which the state is moving forward,” he added.
Dr Elele further stated that the association’s primary duty is to sustain loyalty to Governor Otti and maintain their relevance in ensuring stability and growth at the grassroots.
“So we’re getting together to put ourselves in order, so we can keep continuing supporting our principal, Governor Alex Otti, Chioma Ndị Abia, and that’s why we gathered together,” he affirmed.
He stressed that the Association of Premier Mayors will exist solely to strengthenOtti’s government, not only for the upcoming election, but throughout its full tenure.
“This Association, the Association of Premier Mayors of Abia State will continue from now, until God decides it will be dissolved. We’ll stay to help make Dr Alex Otti, the Governor, for the second term, that’s already written by God, and we as an association are just going to put a stamp on it as his people he chose to lay the foundation with.
“We will work together to make him Governor again, that’s what we’ll do. We’ll guide all the people in the right direction. We’ll support him, we’ll even work. Even if Alex Otti has finished governing for eight (8) years. We’ll work with the people to make sure the benefits of this government get to our people even in the local wards. That’s our goal,” he declared.
He eemphasised that the group is exclusive to former LGA heads, noting that they still command large grassroots followership.
“Every Mayor you see here had created a group of followers at the time they were in office. The people didn’t runaway. All we need to do and what we’ve been assigned to do is to bring them together so we can keep doing the good works that Governor Alex Otti is doing. And also to help these people get the benefits of the democracy they worked for,” he said.
According to him, their role is strategic and selective.
“Don’t worry about little people pecking. When there’s a Hawk flying, there are always little birds pecking,” he said.
He metaphorically likened Governor Otti’s strength to a resilient force, untouchable by opposition forces.
He said DrAlex Otti is like a whole leg of a cow, while opponents are like ants, and no matter what an ant does to the leg of a cow, the leg of the cow can’t decay or be eaten off by ants.
The meeting was attended by prominent Premier Mayors across the state, including: Hon. Uche Wogu, Premier Mayor of Aba South LGA, now Aba Area Coordinator of the Abia State Harmonized Task Force; Dr. Eric Egwuibe, Premier Mayor of Obingwa LGA, now Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget and Planning; Hon. Osinachi Nwaka, Premier Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, now Director-General, Abia State Ministry of Finance Incorporated; Chief Joe Ezearu, Premier Mayor of Arochukwu LGA, now Member, Abia State Local Government Service Commission; Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Nwagbara, Premier Mayor of Ukwa East LGA, and current Member, Abia State Local Government Service Commission.
Also present are Hon. Chief Emeka Nosike Ihesiaba, Premier Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA; Air Vice Marshal Chinwendu Onyike (rtd), Premier Mayor of Isuikwuato LGA; Hon. Ndubuisi Ike, Premier Mayor of Umunneochi LGA; Hon. Obike Ejikeme Nnochiri, Premier Mayor of Umuahia South LGA; and Hon. Newman Azu, Premier Mayor of Ukwa West
The association vowed to immediately commence strategic mobilisation across Local Government Areas to consolidate grassroots support, strengthen government policies, and ensure continuity of the Otti administration beyond 2027.
