A Twitter user, Femi Obafemi, has narrated how he was stopped by the Nigerian Police, searched and his papers seized for refusing to ‘drop something’.
He stated this on his Twitter page narrating what went down with him and the police in Ibadan.
Obafemi revealed that the policeman who stopped him, searched and saw bags of rice on his boots, told him to give him one but he declined. He also told him to ‘drop something’ but he refused and the man left with his papers. When he met him to give him back his papers, the policeman told him that he will show him since he is claiming to be daft.
Obafemi rushed to his car to video record what was happening, the policeman did same and also switched on to record him and also started calming down to how he was acting previously.

This afternoon, 18th Dec, the @PoliceNG rouge officers parked at Total garden IBADAN stopped me, asked for my papers which I gave to the man, he checked my boot and saw some bags of rice, he stylishly asked for the rice, I declined, he told me to close my boot, he then walked away with my registration papers, I waited a while to be sure of what he was up to, he stood afar off and was talking to someone, I walked up to him and asked for my papers, the next thing he said was “drop something”, I asked what for?
My papers are complete, I don’t have contraband in my car, so for what reason should I give you something.
He answered me and said, “which money you get, how much you get?”
“na when you dey secondary school I Don dey drive jeep”.
I said “see, I have no business with what you drive or what you drove, give me my paper” And let me go, the rouge @PoliceNG officer asked me to open my engine, I did, he checked every corner his peanut-sized IQ could phantom, there was nothing amiss, he asked for something again, at that point I got angry and told him to give me my papers and let me be on my way, The man said, “you are stupid, you are daft, I will show you today”.
He got physical, I ran to my car to retrieve my phone so I can record the encounter, his colleagues begged and said I should not record, he brought out his phone too to record, that was when I recorded the short video that I have, at that point he started walking away and behaving himself, because of the camera in his face.
We are asking for an #EndImpunity in @PoliceNG, but some rogue elements are still soiling the name and face of the @PoliceNG, we can’t continue like this, we are not animals, I imagine if it was in the night or in a corner where there was Noone, he would probably have shot me or arrested me and label me a criminal, people like this need to be weeded out of our @PoliceNG asap, @seyiamakinde
Bought vehicles for them, see what they are doing with them.
@segalink, please don’t relent in what you are doing, we must keep winning the battles and ultimately the war against impunity in our @PoliceNG, people like this have no business wearing our @PoliceNG uniform.
#EndSARS #EndImpunity

Recall that there have been many petitions against the police in Nigeria for their harassment, extortion and abuse of the human rights of others.
