Northern Governors Meet to Tackle Insecurity Days After US Visit

In a bid to address the growing insecurity in the North, the Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani is currently hosting a meeting of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

The meeting which is being led by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State will also address education deficit, empowerment and infrastructural development in the region.

Kano State Deputy Governor Comdr Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo attended the Northern Governors meeting representing the Governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

On April 24, nine northern governors despite being the poorest States in Nigeria were in the United States of America for a three-day conference on tackling insecurity in the region.

The conference which was organised by the U.S Institute of Peace sought to broaden their knowledge on strengthening conflict prevention in the region, through non-violent strategies for engaging armed groups as an alternative for conflict resolution.

The governors include Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State; Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State; Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of Zamfara State; Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State and Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State.

Others are Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto of Sokoto State; Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris of Kebbi State; Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.
