The Kaduna State Security Council has lifted the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs following the riots that occurred during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.
According to Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in a statement made available on the 7th of August 2024, the Curfew hours will now be from 6 pm to 6 am daily.
Residents are urged to move about freely from 8 am to 6 pm. It is warned that the curfew hours will be strictly adhered to, and security operatives will be decisive in dealing with any actions that may lead to the breakdown of law and order.
After the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest began in Nigeria, criminals hijacked the demonstration, looted shops, and destroyed government properties, prompting Governor Uba Sani to impose a 24-hour curfew in the state.
The curfew which lasted for two days saw an increased hunger during the curfew period.
Meanwhile, the father of the 16-year-old boy (Ismail), who was killed by the Nigerian Army during the protest in Zaria, Kaduna has been paid N300,000 only in compensation.
The Army stated that Ismail by mistake and offered their condolences to the family.
