The United Nations enmarked 12th August as International Youth Day. The purpose is to enlighten the youth and draw the attention of international communities to the need to ensure the engagement and participation of youth, which is essential to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.
The 2024th theme being From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” speaks of the evolving vast opportunities in the online space, especially for the youths in this part of the world.
The Chairman, of the House Committee on Youth Development, House of Representatives, Martins Esin capitalized on this year’s theme to applaud the youths for their deliberate efforts in making progress in the area of digital skills and online presence. “In an era where digital innovation drives global progress, our youth are at the helm of this transformation. This year’s theme highlights the essential role of digital skills, creativity, and online platforms in advancing our national and global development goals”.

While commending their capabilities, he charged Nigerian Youths to turn their online activities into progressive endeavours for themselves and the overall development of the nation. “You, the youth of Nigeria, possess the unique ability to offer solutions to the challenges we face as a nation. At the recent Townhall Meeting with youth groups, hosted by the House of Representatives, your voices were heard loud and clear, and your concerns were taken to heart”. “Now is the time to turn those clicks into meaningful progress, as digitalization is not just a tool but the bridge that will connect us to a prosperous future”.
Esin further stated the commitment to the 10th Assembly to youth development and empowerment.
“The welfare of Nigerian youth remains a top priority in the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly. We are committed to overseeing the executive arm’s efforts to empower our youth while also crafting policies that promote digital literacy and create opportunities for young Nigerians to flourish in a rapidly evolving digital landscape”.
