College of Nursing Principal Forces Students to Pay ‘Appreciation Fee’

The Principal of the College of Nursing, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Mrs Joy C. Aralu has been accused of extorting the final year students of the school and forcing them to pay ‘appreciation fees’ to lecturers.

In a post shared by Ogbaji Ifeanyi on X, he stated that the school which starts their examination on Tuesday, 7th May 2024 made it mandatory for students to pay N63, 000 which was previously N70,000 to 2016****73, Kuda Bank.

It was gathered that Mrs Aralu who retired from civil service on 13th February 2022, but was appointed by NAUTH, also collects the hostel fees of the school which is paid directly into her account and thereafter fixes 3 to 5 students to a room of 2.

According to Ogbaji, the management of NAUTH is aware of the incident but has kept mum about it.

It also accused her son Makuo Richards, a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science who lives with the students in their hostel, of extorting them monetarily and in kind for people who cannot pay to pass their 2nd Entrance and PTS examination.

Students of National Open University, Nigeria attached to the College of Nursing were also tasked to pay N35k, as an appreciation fee, to the same Kuda account.

Meanwhile, the management has allegedly claimed to have suspended Mrs on the 26th day of April 2024 and had forced the students to disown the report.
