A source at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has stated that the former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello was arrested in a midnight sting operation.
Bello through his Media office disclosed that he voluntarily honoured the invitation of the Anti-Crime Commission on Wednesday and was never on the run but wanted to ensure his fundamental rights as a citizen would be protected.
The source who spoke to Vanguard said Bello who is facing 19 count charges bordering on money laundering was trailed and arrested at Lokoja at midnight.
“Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is currently at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja. He was arrested in Lokoja, with operatives trailing and apprehending him at midnight,” the source said.
EFCC in April also accused Bello of stealing $760k from Kogi State treasury to pay his children’s school fees in a highbrow school in Abuja.
