The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, has stated that the abductors of Government Science Secondary School Kankari have made contacts with the government.
The Governor made this announcement on Monday stating that there were discussions about the safety and return of the students to their homes.
Recall that a large number of bandits on a motorbike had kidnapped a large number of students which the state government disclosed were 333 on Friday, the same day President Muhammadu Buhari arrived his country home in Daura for a week-long visit.
A government delegation led the by the defence minister, Bashir Magashi, had earlier visited the governor, promising that the students would be rescued.
The presidency on Monday in a statement signed by Garba Shehu quoted the governor as saying progress is being made in the rescue of the students.
“We are making progress and the outlook is positive,’’ the governor reportedly told reporters after an hour meeting with the president, which started at 2 p.m.
Governor Masari also noted that security agencies had located the position of the children.
“President was fully committed to the rescue of the school children,” adding that “it was only appropriate to visit the President and give him more details of rescue efforts”.
