Men of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested two fraudsters who duped an old woman the sum of N500,000.
The two suspects identified as Dapo Akinwumi and Sunday Famaiye were said to have hypnotized their victim before collecting her money.
They were said to operate at Arakale, Irowo, Odopetu, Ijomu and Isolo area of Akure through a codename “Apadabo Alaaje”.
Commandant of Ondo NSCDC, Eweka Edenabu Okoro, said the suspects were arrested by the Counter-Terrorist Unit of the command based on intelligence.
Eweka said a third member of the gang was on the run.
According to him, “Investigation reveals that the suspects do hypnotize their victims, swindle them of fortunes and threaten their victims not to confess their predicament or else they will die.
“On Wednesday 10th March 2021; Dapo Akinwumi, Sunday Famaiye and Omona Akerele, being the third member of the syndicate currently at large, did intercept the victim at Arakale area, got her ATM card and mobile phone. They later went to a Point of sales (POS) and withdrew the sum of Five Hundred and Seventeen Thousand Naira (#517,000) in an account belonging to an old woman.
“Investigation is still ongoing and all suspects arrested would be prosecuted in the law court.”
Also, operatives of the NSCDC have intercepted a bus conveying 88 gallons of 30 litres of Automotive Gas Oil, popularly known as diesel, in the Ore area of the state.
One suspect, Babalola Shola, was arrested for conveying the diesel enroute Ondo- Ore- Odigbo Road in a Mazda Bus.
