The Secretary of State of the United States of America, Antony Blinken has stated that the country has imposed visa restrictions on individuals who undermined the democratic process in Nigeria during the 2023 general elections.
“We have imposed visa restrictions on specific individuals who undermined the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 elections. We remain committed to supporting Nigerian aspirations to strengthen democracy and rule of law.”
Speaking on Monday, Mr Blinken stated that the World power remains committed to supporting the aspirations of Nigerians and strengthen its rule of law.

This comes months after the violence witnessed at the February 25 general elections in the country which produced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
Announcing the results, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, urged aggrieved opposition candidates to seek redress in the court as stated in the Electoral Act 2022.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party and its presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi and the Peoples Democratic Party and it’s presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are in court over the outcome of the election with its further hearing on the 17th of May 2023.
