The Court of Appeal has given three weeks to Labour Party and its presidential candidate in the just concluded election, Peter Obi to present their petitions.
In the case between the former Anambra State Governor Mr. Obi and Labour Party against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President-Elect Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressive Congress, APC, it stated on Tuesday morning that the commencement of the hearing will be on 30th of May, 2023.
On Monday, the Labour Party through their lawyer Awa Kalu, SAN, requested 7 weeks as trial time but the five-member panel of Judges led by Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani approved three weeks proposing that 5th August will be the end of the trial.
Frowning at the protest by some lawyers over the court’s decision to disallow mobile phones in the courtroom, Justice Tsammani revealed that the decision was for security.
He urged the people to comply with the decision of the court by not entering the courtroom with their mobile phones.
