Ahead of the gubernatorial election, the Imo State government said it will, before the end of this month (July) 2023 recruit new teachers and lecturers for Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary institutions in the state.
This was part of the disclosure made by the governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma during a stakeholders’ meeting he held Saturday at the main hall of Rockview Hotel, Owerri, during which he enumerated various palliative packages being worked out by his government to cushion the harsh economic effect of the fuel subsidy removal on Imo people.
He said the main aim of the recruitment was to feel the teaching vacancies and shortage of teachers/lecturers in the state school system, to boost employment and income generation of those to be recruited.
In addition to approving the floating of the Imo Mass Transit scheme, for cheaper road transportation for Imolites, the governor informed his audience that he has also given approval for free buses for students in tertiary institutions in the state.
Also, the governor disclosed plans by his government to set up a scholarship board to grant scholarships to intelligent Imo sons and daughters whose parents cannot afford the cost of their education from secondary to tertiary levels.
Other largesse announced by the governor for Imo people included; payment of gratuity to retirees from 2008 till date, Housing estates at Mgbidi, Oru West (Orlu zone), Anara Isiala Mbano (Okigwe zone) and Nekede, Owerri West (Owerri zone).
Others include; gas powered industrial zone at Ohaji Egbema, and take over of Egbema Power Plant from the federal government for a steady power supply, among numerous others.
