An unidentified woman was killed by a truck that had no driver inside it at Ezeiweka Road axis of the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Onitsha, Anambra State at about 3: p.m. on Thursday.
According to the report, the Mack Truck was parked, while goods were being offloaded from it; and all of a sudden, it rolled off without any driver inside it.
Despite attempts by people to stop the truck, it speedily knócked down a woman and crúshed her to dèath before it was eventually stopped. The woman was also trapped under the truck.
Meanwhile, Oyokomita.com reports that the rescue team from the Federal Road Safety Corps RS5.3A1 Upper Iweka Outpost, Anambra State, rushed to the accident scene along with the Awada Police team and made efforts to get a crane to lift the 40ft container and bring out the corpse of the trapped woman and clear the obstruction caused by the àccident.
Condoling the family of the victim, an official of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, told NAN on Friday in Awka that effort is being made to arrest the driver of the truck whose whereabouts is still unknown.
“According to eyewitnesses, the trailer was parked while goods were being offloaded from its container and all of a sudden, it rolled off without the driver inside. It hit and trapped the woman.
“The FRSC rescue team from Upper-Iweka Outpost with the Awada Police team made efforts to get a crane to lift the 40-feet container, but the trapped victim was already dead.
“The Awada Police Division is making efforts to arrest the driver of the trailer who escaped.
“And as of this morning, we are still making efforts to clear the obstruction and ensure free traffic flow.”
