Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has pledged to cover the medical expenses of the victims involved in the tragic truck accident that occurred in Karu, Abuja, on Wednesday evening.
Wike extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident, describing the accident as avoidable. He directed that those injured receive ongoing medical care and instructed Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary for Health and Environment, to ensure that the victims receive appropriate medical attention.
According to Wike, Dr Fasawe was present at Asokoro District Hospital, where 17 casualties were brought in, and collaborated with medical personnel to provide care for the victims.

Wike provided an update on their conditions, stating that seven individuals were referred to the National Hospital, six with minor injuries were treated successfully, and three individuals with severe burns, as well as inhalation and crush injuries, are currently receiving treatment. Unfortunately, one of the victims with third-degree burns passed away while being resuscitated.
Wike also urged road users, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise greater caution and adhere strictly to speed limits to prevent future accidents. He called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant agencies to enhance their efforts in enforcing compliance with traffic regulations, emphasizing that the accident was both painful and preventable.
