An elderly couple has been arrested for allegedly burying their daughter-in-law alive then hiding her body to ensure their son got custody of their grandchildren.
The body of the victim, named as Marcia Martins Miranda, 41, was reportedly found in an abandoned house in the Rio Pequeno area of the city of Sao Paulo.
The house where her body was found is said to have been rented by her parents-in-law, Fernando Antonio Martins de Oliveira, 62, and Maria Izilda Pereira Miranda, 60. Miranda, a social worker, had been missing for over a month before her body was found.
Her parents-in-law reportedly decided to kill the victim after she said she was going to separate from her husband and take their children, a four-year-old boy and a nine-month-old girl.
Investigators believe the suspects had invited her to create a bank account for their grandchildren and drove her to the house they were renting to talk about the details.
