Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has commissioned some sets of Fire Tunic, equipment meant for heat resistance and safety during fire fighting.
Commissioning the equipment at Abia State Fire Service premises, the Governor expressed his delight at the passion on which the men of the State Fire Service discharge their duty. He acknowledged their show of committment to work, describing the State Fire Service men as best hands in Nigeria.
The Governor, represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere said government is determined to providing more fire service equipment for the agency to enable the men serve the State better.
Governor Ikpeazu enjoined Abians and residents to be careful with electricity and ensure they switch off electrical gadgets when not in use. He equally urged people to avoid bush burning and other activities that could trigger fire outbreak.
The Governor commended the Controller, Abia State Fire Service Mr. Victor Gbaruko and his team for their acts of gallantry, commitment, passion and dedication to the service and urged them to continue, assuring that government would make available all that is necessary for effective delivery of quality service.
Earlier in his speech, the Controller, Abia State Fire Service Mr. Victor Gbaruko disclosed that the Fire Tunic is meant for heat resistance which enable fire men to combat fire closely. He said fire outbreak has become alarming, hence the need to have enough equipment to tackle it.
Mr. Gbaruko thanked the Governor for providing fire fighting equipment and other supports to the Abia State Fire Service which made them capable of handling fire outbreaks in the State.
The event featured a Live Fire Drill show, where the fire men displayed how they fight fire outbreak.
