Abia state government has commended the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), for its support, commitment and fervent prayers in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, and chairman of the state interministerial committee on covid-19, Barr Chris Ezem stated this while addressing Church Leaders under the auspices of Christian Association of Nigeria during a prayer session for the state and nation held at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Wesley Cathedral, Umuwaya Road, Umuahia.
The SSG appreciated them for assisting the government in the onerous task of leadership and for being in the vanguard of preaching strict compliance to the covid-19 protocol to prevent the spread of the virus.
Barr Ezem who explained that coronavirus according to World Health Organization spreads through the release of respiratory droplets charged all to ensure they maintain social distancing at all times to reduce the tendency of spreading the virus.
He further thanked them for their prayers for the state and the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, revealing that the Governor will soon return to duty. He concluded his remarks by advising all to live their lives for Christ and thanked the Church in Abia State for supporting the efforts of the Government to control the spread of coronavirus.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman, CAN, Abia State Chapter, Apostle Dr Emmanuel Agomuo, and the Archbishop of Methodist Archdiocese of Umuahia, Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko, eulogized the state interministerial committee on COVID-19 for their doggedness and vital roles they have kept playing during this pandemic period, pointing out that the committee has done well in the area of distribution of palliatives to Abians and pledged to continue to observe all the COVID-19 protocols.
Highlights of the event include a special prayer session held for the SSG and the government of Abia State.
