A makeup artist based in Bayelsa State identified as Elvina Japheth Abili has been burnt to death after a jealous lover set a home ablaze in Igbogene-Apie, Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State.
It was discovered that the 40-year-old Etifa Obukulubu set his girlfriend, Wilberforce’s home on fire over suspicion of cheating on Saturday, October 31st at about 3 am.
Pastor Henry, who is said to be working with New Baptist Church, and his female assistant, Elvina, were allegedly put up in the house when the unfortunate incident occurred. It was gathered that Wilberforce vacated her home for the victims, who reportedly came from outside the state on an evangelical mission.
Residents of the community said the suspect, who is a commercial driver, had waited for his girlfriend, Wilberforce, to come home before carrying out the dastardly act. They claimed the suspect, on sighting her girlfriend with a man and another girl, got angry and set the home ablaze.
“He (suspect) waited for them to enter the house and used fuel to set fire around the house.
But he did not know that Wilberforce had left the house to go and sleep with another friend.
“It is unfortunate that the pastor and his assistant died in the fire. I was told the pastor was invited to preach in Yenagoa and the suspect’s girlfriend offered her home for them to sleep so that they would leave early the following day,” a source said.
A spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said the investigation was on.
