The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully busted a child trafficking ring, arresting a self-proclaimed pastor and three accomplices, and rescuing two children believed to be victims of human trafficking.

The operation followed a distress call received around 2:00 a.m. on May 24, 2025, from vigilant officials at Wazobia Motor Park in Gwagwalada. The tip-off reported a man exhibiting suspicious behavior while attempting to board a vehicle to Owerri, Imo State, with a young child.

Police emergency teams swiftly responded, arresting one Isreal Ajah, who was found with a 7-year-old boy later identified as Muktar Hassan. Investigations revealed that the child had been handed over to Ajah by his elder brother, Rev. Pastor Prince Bassey Ajah the General Overseer of “Wells of Salvation” Church in Byazhin Across.

Pastor Ajah was subsequently arrested, along with two female accomplices: Nancy Atoo and Deaconess Vera Duru. A search of Nancy Atoo’s residence led to the rescue of a second victim a 4-year-old girl known only as “Mercy.” No documentation or family details were found for the girl, who remains in protective custody as efforts continue to locate her biological family.

According to police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh,, the children were being trafficked for sale in Owerri. The suspects reportedly confessed that Muktar was to be sold for ₦1.2 million, with Deaconess Vera Duru allegedly playing a key role in arranging the transaction.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, praised the quick thinking of the park officials and reiterated the importance of public vigilance. He also advised parents and guardians against sending minors on errands alone.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, or 07057337653.
