The Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Chibuzor Collins for having a short gun and live cartridges.
According to the Police Public Relation Officer, Haruna Mohammed, who stated that the Chibuzor was arrested in a shuttle bus while the police operatives attached to the Command Federal Highway Patrol were on a stop and search operation at Oba along Onitsha/Owerri road.
Chibuzor, a native of Uzombe in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State was behaving in a strange manner which led the operatives to search his bag and a double-barrel locally made short gun loaded with two live cartridges was recovered in his possession.
“The suspect was promptly arrested is assisting the police with useful information to unravel his motive of having firearm inside a shuttle bus after which he would be brought to justice,” Haruna added.
The PPRO also related another case below, “In a related development, on the 24/11/2020 at about 80:30pm, police patrol team attached to Okpoko Division while on patrol along Owerri road by Obodoukwu junction intercepted a middle-aged man carrying a Ghana must go bag, when confronted, the man abandoned the bag and escaped in between vehicles. Upon search of the bag, one G3 rifle containing Seventeen rounds of 7.25×61mm live ammunition, one Pump action gun and one magazine were recovered. The effort is being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect to bring him to book.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, John B. Abang, FDC, has appealed to members of the public to relay all suspicious activities and movement to the emergency number 07039194332 in the State or the nearest Police Station and also assured that reports will be dealt with discreetly.
