A fire has engulfed a plaza at a plastic market by Amobi street Onitsha in Anambra State. leaving no casualty on Friday, 5th of March, 2021.
The fire which started at 1:50 am was quickly extinguished and investigation has commenced ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police operatives led by DPO CPS Onitsha SP Ifeanyi Iburu were quickly mobilized to the scene and the area was cordoned to prevent looting and further catastrophe.
The Police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, revealed that the fire service was contacted and the fire was extinguished with the help of firefighters and other sympathisers.
“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the extent of damage and circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuryas, FSI, appealed to the public to always ‘apply safety precautions especially by switching off all electrical appliances in their homes, shops and workplaces when not in use to avert similar ugly incidents which could also lead to loss of lives and injuries especially during this harmattan period.’
