The Senate Chief whip and the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to fix Umuahia-Uzuakoli to Ohafia roads to ease the stress of commuters.
Speaking on his Facebook page on Friday, Senator Kalu stated that during his time as the Governor, he built the roads mentioned and maintained it. He also lamented that there has been no new investment on the road despite being one of the busiest roads in Abia.
Senator Kalu also revealed that despite the roads not being under his Senatorial zone, he had initially appropriated ‘one billion naira but the Federal Ministry of Work is yet to take any action on it.’
His statement reads, ‘This is an appeal to my state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to consider rebuilding one of the important state roads in Abia : Umuahia -Uzuakoli -Akara-Alayi-Igbere- Item-Abiriba-Ohafia road. Against certain insinuations, the road is a state road and not federal road. Despite not falling into my senatorial role, I had initially appropriated One billion naira as part of the 2021 capital project but the Federal Ministry of Work is yet take action on it .
When I was Governor, I built the road and maintained it. Ever since I left, there has been no new investment on the road despite being one of the busiest roads in Abia. I am calling and appealing to the state Governor to ease off the stress on that road by taking urgent action on it.’
