Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has assured people of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state that the struggles and effort they put in to liberate the area from the shackles of over 16 years of bad governance and captivity will never be in vain.
Uzodimma gave this assurance while addressing leaders and people of the area who thronged the state Government House, on a thank you visit to the governor for his leadership role that brought about victory for the party in the just concluded state constituency bye-election in the area.
He lauded them for the unity of purpose they exhibited during the period leading to the election and during the election proper, urging them to continue in that spirit, for the greater task and dividends ahead.
“There is nobody who will seat on this seat, who is God-fearing and wants Imo State to go forward who will not be passionate with development and activities in Ngor Okpala LGA. Unless those who are unable to open their eyes to the potentials and opportunities, the natural endowments of the area”.
He disclosed that there is crude oil deposits in Ngor Okpala which they have been milking through what they call diagonal drilling, assuring them that as soon as the Supreme Court makes its pronouncement, he will send an Executive Bill to the Imo State House of Assembly to include Ngor Okpala in ISOPADEC as one of the oil producing areas in the state.
Earlier in their remarks, leader of the the delegation and leader of APC in the area, Dr. T.O.E. Ekechi and other leaders of the area, including the Interim Management Committee Chairman, lauded the governor for the massive support he gave to the APC in the area towards the electoral victory.
“We have broken that jinx of Ngor Okpala being a PDP LGA. Result of the election has demonstrated that Ngor Okpala and indeed the entire Owerri zone is a fertile ground for APC”.
They said they came to appreciate the governor for the fatherly role he played for the APC in the LGA, which according to them, motivated them to work fearlessly for victory.
Fielding questions from newsmen, the newly elected House of Assembly member, Blyden Amajirionwu expressed gratitude to God, who he said made his emergence possible and to the leaders and entire people of Ngor Okpala who responded to the call.
He promised that he will be an active member of the House and will work with the governor who has consistently expressed his love for the area, to get dividends of democracy down to the people.
