The Nigerian Railway Corporation has suspended train operations from Abuja to Kaduna following an attack by bandits on the rail tracks on Monday night.
A statement on its official Twitter page on Tuesday revealed that further communication will be made available to the passengers in due course.
“Dear passengers, due to unforeseen circumstances, Train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route has been temporarily suspended. Further Communication would be given in due course.
A medical doctor, Dr Megafu Chinelo, who was aboard the train tweeted an SOS calling on people to pray for her as she has been shot, has been confirmed dead.
Many passengers of the Abuja-kaduna train have been rescued by soldiers following a series of reports of an attack at the Kateri-Rijana area on Monday.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the government said information about the rescue mission was conveyed to security operatives.
According to a report by NAN, Mr Aruwan disclosed that efforts are ongoing to move injured passengers to hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Relatives of missing passengers have taken to the websites and social media handles of government officials in search of information on the attack.
The attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train comes two days after bandits attacked the Kaduna International Airport killing aviation workers and injuring many people.
A situationin which the government has since denied.
