Jubilation and peace returned in Ishienu Amofu autonomous community Nkerefi after 9 years without a king, Ishienu Amofu, a community in Nkanu East local government Area of Enugu state where the brutal murder of their duly chosen Igwe, His Royal Highness, Peter Onuoha in 2013 was widely reported.
On Sunday 4th day of February 2024, the Ishienu Amofu community elected Chief Christian Ogbonnaya Agu, popularly known as Christag as the Igwe of Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi after a long time of 9 years without a king.
His Royal Highness, Igwe Chief Christian Ogbonnaya Agu (CHRISTAG, Eze Oha Chiri) was duly and peacefully elected by the villages of Ishienu Amofu community according to the constitution of the COMMUNITY town union.
According to a report by the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), the community celebrated the election of the new Igwe with the heroic Ebe Umuogbii traditional music and with full expression of joy.
Speaking with members of the electoral committee, village chairmen, observers, and leadership of Nkerefi Development Union, PGs of the other three (Imeoha, Enuogu, and Ohuani) communities of Nkerefi, our correspondent observed that the process was smooth, free, and fair.
Also, the presence of security operatives, including men of the Nigeria Police ably led by the DPO of Nkanu East, Civil Defense officers, and others helped ensure that the process was completely rancor-free.
The community leadership expressed how eager and ready they are to present their duly elected Igwe to both the local and state governments by the laws of Enugu state within the week.
Meanwhile, the Igwe elect pledged to work in line with the laws of the land and to serve the good people of Ishienu Amofu with diligence and the fear of God.
