The Speaker of Kaduna State House for Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Liman has stated that the 13-man committee set up to investigate the loans and contracts of the previous administration led by Alhaji Nasir El-Rufai is not to ridicule but to clear doubts.
Speaking on Tuesday after the House set up the committee on fact-finding of financial dealings, loans and grants, and other project implementations from 2015-2023, he said the committee will give everyone involved the liberty to speak the truth.
“We just want to analyze the last administration’s spendings so that we can stand with our shoulders high by the time we finish from the assembly, we do not want anyone to call us rubber stamp legislators, we are not going to do this investigation to ridicule anybody, but we will do the right thing,” he said.
Recall that Governor Uba Sani stated that his administration inherited a huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from his predecessor and cannot pay workers salaries as the state’s monthly salary bill stood at N5.2 billion while N7 billion out of N10 billion monthly allocation for the State is used to service the debt.
This complaint did not sit well with one of the sons of the former governor, Bashir El-Rufai and so, accused Governor Sani of incompetence and deflecting from his responsibility.
In a deleted tweet, he wrote; “These guys have realised that they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect. From a Governor who is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides who were only rewarded for foolish political reasons.”
