Protest Rocks Degema Community Over LGA Chairman’s Refusal to Vacate Office

Youths of Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State are protesting at the headquarters of the LGA Over the refusal of Chairman Michael John Williams to vacate office following the expiration of his tenure.

Chanting ‘Chairman, you must go’ the youths locked up the secretariat of the Local Government while insisting that the Chairman must go.

Speaking to Newsmen, an indigene of Kalabari stated that the tenure of all the LGA Chairmen has elapsed but the Chairmen of the 23 LGA refused to vacate the office.

“We are not here to cause problems but to make sure that the Chairman vacates office. We want to try other people and their way of governance. If your father says he doesn’t need you and you insist on staying, that means you are looking for a problem. The entire Kalabari Kingdom have decided to make sure the 23 LGA Chairmen vacate office, especially the Degema LGA Chairman and that’s why we came out.

“We are not leaving here until we see the incoming Chairmen take office. The Governor of the State, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara is a patient man and so we are here to support him.”

The Chairmen who are pro-Wike supporters had earlier decided that they would not vacate their seats even at the expiration of their tenure following the fallout of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike and the Governor of Rivers State, Fubara.
