The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has stated that his administration will support security operatives in the state to perform their functions optimally through the provision of basic facilities that will assist them in their work.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this today at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Headquarters of the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army when he visited the formation on an assessment tour of the living conditions of the officers and men of the Brigade.
In particular, the Governor came to see first hand, the condition of the internal roads, residential buildings and water facilities at the Barracks, in response to a clarion call by the authorities of the Brigade.
The Governor was received by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General SB Kumapayi.
After inspecting the Quarter Guard, he was ushered into the Brigade Commander’s office and later to the OPS Room, a high security zone where cameras are not allowed. Here, the Governor was fully briefed on the operations of the Brigade and a brief on the security situation in the state, as well as the challenges facing the Brigade.
The Governor was presented with a souvenir and later signed the visitors register.
The Governor was then led on a guided tour of the Barracks where he saw the state of the internal roads in the Barracks as well as the dilapidated residential quarters. The Governor also visited the site of the Water Project in the Barracks, a 10,000 litre capacity water facility which had long broken down.
Governor Ikpeazu, who went there with a Civil Engineer assured the Brigade Commander that his administration will quickly work on fixing a part of the internal roads and renovate one of the residential quarters. The water project will also be renovated because the 10,000 litre capacity water project, when fully revamped will not only serve the Barracks but can be reticulated to serve the immediate host Community.
The Governor urged the Civil Engineer who is also an indigene of Ohafia to get to work immediately on these specific areas.
The Governor believes that if we must expect the best from these military and security formations, then as a government, we must be prepared to assist them tackle their most basic and pressing demands.
