The Rivers State Police Command raided the hideout of a gang led by Preye Ngian-Ngian, a native of Degema Local Government Area following the abduction and murder of Hope Georgewill, the CEO of HMG Attitude Ltd, who was abducted alongside two others on March 26, 2025, by sea pirates operating along the Cotton Channel, Bakana River.

The raid on the hideout in a creek off the Bonny Waterway on April 3, 2025 followed weeks of intensive investigation, police operatives from the Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU) in Emohua, acting on intelligence gathered from two suspects earlier arrested in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
According to the spokesperson of the Police SP Grace Iringe-Koko on Monday, despite a ransom payment of ₦2 million, Georgewill was later found dead, with his remains deposited at a local morgue.

The statement revealed that the operation met resistance, with the suspects opening heavy fire on the approaching officers. In the exchange that followed, two suspects were fatally shot, while others fled with gunshot wounds. The two suspects who had initially led officers to the hideout attempted to escape during the firefight but were later apprehended, also sustaining gunshot injuries.
During a subsequent sweep of the area, police recovered several items including a speedboat, two outboard engines (80hp and 70hp), the deceased’s mobile phone (without the SIM card), a live cartridge, and food supplies used by the gang.
All four injured suspects were rushed to the Police Clinic for medical treatment but were confirmed dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited for autopsy.
Investigations are still ongoing, with authorities promising to provide further updates as more information emerges.
