Mother, Grandmother Others Sell Newborn for N800,000
Police operatives in Akwa Ibom State have arrested 55-year-old grandmother Grace Walter and 20-year-old Blessing Walter, the baby’s mother, for selling a baby for eight hundred thousand Naira (₦800,000).
Police operatives in Akwa Ibom State have arrested 55-year-old grandmother Grace Walter and 20-year-old Blessing Walter, the baby’s mother, for selling a baby for eight hundred thousand Naira (₦800,000).

They were arrested after two women were intercepted along the Nsit Atai/Oron Road while they were in a Mazda vehicle with registration number YAB 454, driven by Bethel Anyanwu.
The two female suspects, Nasikpo Sonia Labere and Inemesit Okin Akpan confessed that they were sent from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by a woman named Waazor Godwin and another named Lilian Duru to collect the baby from Miss Grace Inyang in Oron.

According to DSP Timfon John, upon interrogation, the suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the infant. Further investigation led to the arrest of Alison Eduno, who facilitated the connection between the buyer and the seller.
All suspects are currently in police custody. The rescued baby has been taken to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Uyo for care and custody pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
