Due to the constant robbing of road users in Nigeria by the operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, human rights activist, Segun Awosanya has declared the Lagos/Benin expressway as a state of emergency pending the government intervention.
Segun stated this on the Twitter page and revealed that it is not limited to Lagos/Benin road where SARS lays siege for unsuspecting road users while abducting, harassing and robbing them becomes the order of the day.
“We hereby declare a state of emergency on Lagos/Benin Expressway as armed @PoliceNG SARS and other tactical squads have been reported to have laid siege on the road abducting, harassing and robbing road users at gunpoint for money. We hereby call on the authorities to act. We don’t want to encourage Jungle Justice which might be the resultant impact if this is not addressed effectively immediately. This can also spread beyond the highway should society respond as should with this troubling development. Take head @PoliceNG before we mobilize.”
He also stated that people cannot work for their money and come home to be robbed by people who are meant to protect them.
“This is not limited to Lagos/Benin road but all interstate highways and major cities. We will not stand by and watch the vulnerable in society get robbed by @PoliceNG as they will henceforth be met with the necessary resistance and response if nothing is done immediately. People can not work hard for their money only to choose to return home to their loved ones and be robbed by those meant to protect them. This will not be accepted and will definitely not be allowed to continue. We are watching and will act as should. #EndImpunity @MBuhari”
Recall that many Nigerians have complained about the extortion of SARS who are always on that road to harass and forcefully extort money from road users.
They force road users to check the bank account and force them to transfer their money to them or face shooting or frame-up.
