Atiku Condemns Bokku Killing, Asks Tinubu to Reconfigure Security Architecture

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President has asked President Bola Tinubu to reconfigure the security architecture of the country to protect lives and properties of the people following the 52 lives killed in Bokku, Plateau State.

“Nigerians are now being forced to get used to such news of wanton killings, and I again offer my condolences to the bereaved communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State and the affected families. I wish to restate my counsel to the Tinubu-led FG to reconfigure its security architecture to meet the needs of protecting the lives and properties of our people.”

Speaking on Friday, Alhaji Abubakar condemned the massacre of villagers by Fulani herdsmen, criticizing the security of the nation, which has become worse by the day.

“The failure of Bola Tinubu’s security architecture has now become an endemic nationwide phenomenon with repeated killings, more of which do not even make the headlines.”

The death toll on the killings at Bokku, Plateau State has risen to 52 following the recovery of 40 more bodies.

According to the Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, Farmasum Fuddang, told Channels Television that 31 persons were given a mass burial on Thursday with another five underaged victims burnt to ashes in Hurti village. 11 others were killed in Ruwi village, four in Manguna village with one person killed in Daffo village.

He stated that residents are awaiting an outcome from the ongoing search and rescue of missing persons in the Hurti and Mbar villages respectively.

The State Government has also condemned the attack and killing, stating that the killings are a setback to the gains in maintaining law and order by security agencies in the local government area.

In a statement on Friday, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said “Security agencies have deployed and dominated these areas to ensure normalcy returns at the shortest possible time.”

“Additionally, important arrests have been made by the security agencies and this will hopefully help in stemming the tide of this ugly situation.”
